You raise your weapon, taking quick aim at the man pointing his weapon at the professor and squeeze of a shot. Your ears ring from the gunshot, deafening you completely. Your shot hits the man in the chest, he crumples to the group, the gun dropping from his dead hand.
The gunman aiming at Kate also crumples. Emily looks on in
horror, smoke curling from her raised pistol. She drops it slowly. It takes a
few seconds for your hearing to return.
You check the pulse of both men but neither of them survived
the encounter. You were very lucky.
The professor looks pretty shaken. He tells you that these
agents are after his technology, not to help humanity buy some time with
climate change, but use his breakthrough in highly efficient lasers as weapons.
“We need to get him to my friends at the university in
Geneva. They will distribute this information to the world. It can’t just remain
in the hands of a single government or corporation,” Kate says, looking
straight into the eyes of the professor, daring him to disagree with her.
“No, Kate. This is my work and I have obligations to my
government. Even if the obligation is just out of a sense of patriotic duty. I
don’t agree with your idealised vision of the future.”
Kate raises her weapon at the professor. “I’m sorry
professor, but I have to take it,” Mike and Jack enters the room, their hand s
on their pistols, looking at you menacingly.
