You drop the weapon to the ground and raise your hands. The police officer swiftly arrests you, cuffing your hand behind your back.
An hour later you are in the cell of a local police station.
A police officer escorts you into a small interrogation room. A single metal
desk and two uncomfortable looking chairs occupy the small room. Behind the
desk sits a man in a black suit and reflective sunglasses. In front of him is
the memory stick that the police removed from your jacket pocket after your
arrest.
“Well, young pilot,” The man says. “I am agent Jones from
the Military intelligence Agency. Why don’t you tell me what happened?”
Feeling like you have no choice, you retell the whole story.
You can’t really tell if he believes you as he never removes those sunglasses.
“Fascinating!” He says as you finish your story. “Emily and
the professor is all right. The police got there in time and took out the
suspect. Your diversion definitely saved their lives,”
“And Kate?”
“She will survive. Her recovery will be long and difficult,
but she’s a fighter. Much of that recovery will be in jail though as she is
wanted for several other crimes,” He gets up and heads for the door. “You are
free to go, but you can never speak of these events to anyone. And if you are
wondering, the professor is working for us now,”
Outside the room, Emily is waiting. She gives you a hug and
the two of you leave the station together. After all you have been through, you
feel that you have failed. You doubt that the professor’s research will be put
to good use.
The end.
