“I agree, professor. Let’s rather make sure that no new weapons are designed to make the world a more dangerous place.”
The professor leads you to an adjacent workshop where a
prototype of his technology set up for testing.
“Destroy the circuit boards and I’ll wipe the computers,” he
says as he sits down in front of a bank of computer monitors.
You pick up a hammer and start smashing the electronics of
the prototype. Each blow of the hammer creating a visible shudder in the
professor, his life’ work being destroyed in seconds.
“Done!” he says, staring at the screens. “It’s all gone”.
You leave the professor in his misery and go back to where
you tied up the foreign agent.
“We have destroyed everything. There is nothing left for you
to steal anymore!” you tell him angrily. “Go back to where you came from!”
He nods and gets up and leaves the workshop without a word.
Without any reason to return, he calls off the reinforcements.
The technology may be lost, but at least something designed
for the benefit of the planet was not turned into a weapon against humankind.
