 “Let’s get back to the car.”

Kate seems a bit hesitant, but Emily agrees with you. Kate works the GPS and it points in the direction you need to go. Kate leads the way and you follow her. Kate tries her cell phone several times, but there is no signal. She worries about the professor and his safety not that you have stirred the hornet’s nest.

After about three hours of hiking, you approach the main road. Another hundred yards and you are at your car! The road is quiet this late at night. No other cars are visible. 

Kate keeps to the edge of the forest as she continues towards your car. You spot your car in the same spot you parked. You pause, Kate and Emily following your lead.

“Let’s wait a few minutes, see what happens,” you whisper to Kate. A few minutes pass. Nothing seems out of the ordinary.

“It seems fine!” Emily says after five minutes. “There’s no one here.”

You leave the woods and approach the car. Kate unlocks the car, the indicators flashing a bright orange. You get into the front passenger’s side and Kate into the driver’s seat. Emily is the last in the car and she slams the door.

From the woods in front of you, two men emerge with rifles aimed at you. You stepped into an ambush. They have no intention of letting you go alive!
