You turn around and make a run for the door. Thankfully, the carriage you are running towards is empty. The police officer yells for you to stop again but you ignore him. He sets off after you, his progress hampered by the people fleeing the scene.
The doors close just as he arrives at the carriage and the
train starts to move. You stand in the carriage by yourself, shaking as the
buzz from the adrenaline is slowly wearing off. You deposit the gun in a
garbage disposal and move towards the rear of the train. You blend in easily enough
in this carriage, which is almost full.
It’s a very short trip to the next station. You imagine what
the next station may be like, probably packed with armed police, but when the
train stops at the next stop, everything is normal. You quickly disembark and
move towards the station exit. You buy a ticket just so that you do not need to
jump another turnstile on your way out.
As you exit the station, you cell phone rings. It’s Emily!
“Emily, are you OK?” you frantically ask.
“Yes, yes we are! The police arrived and the gunman is in
custody. We are at the police station and Kate is on her way to the hospital. Where
are you?”
“I’m not certain. I just got out of the subway,”
“Get the station name and Kate’s friends will pick you up”.
You find the station name and give it to Emily. “They’ll be
there in five minutes. Well done!” Emily hangs the phone up.
Five minutes later a van pulls up and double parks in front
of the station. A man gets out and looks around. You guess its Kate’s friends
and walk towards him. He spots you and walks hurriedly walks towards you.
“I’m Jack, we must leave now. We’re not sure if there are
others looking for you.” He takes your arm and leads you to the van.
