“OK, Kate. Get your friends ready!”
Kate hands you an earbud. “So you can hear us. You won’t be
able to talk to us though,” she explains. Kate leaves to call her friends.
Thirty minutes later, a van pulls up. You recognise Mike and
Jack in the front of the van. Kate slides the side panel of the van open and
you see a few more men and women, weapons clearly visible.
“Good luck!” Kate shouts as the side door slides shut. The
van pulls off with a squeal.
You and Emily get into a new rental car, the costs are
adding up but he Climate Peace is paying, so hey! You drive towards the set of
coordinates, too nervous to talk. Your GPS leads you through the city, into an
industrial area.
Kate’s voice sounds in your ear. “We are taking up position
on a warehouse roof next to where you are heading. We can see their vehicle.
There are two men and the Professor is there as well.”
The coordinates lead to a construction site in the middle of
an industrial area. The site is abandoned, the workers have gone to their homes
and families for the evening. A black
car is parked next to a giant crane, its headlights shining brightly, blinding
you.
Silhouetted in the light are three men, their features
obscured in the bright light. You assume the shortest of the three black shapes
is the professor.
You approach the men.
“Hand me the disc!” a voice in a thick accent commands.
You take the memory stick out of your pocket, close the gap
between you and hand him the memory stick.
He smiles, “We warned you to come alone! Now you and your
friends will pay for your mistake,”
Loud static erupts from your earbud. The pop of gunfire
files the air, coming from the warehouse where Kate and her team is covering
you.
You look towards the roof of the warehouse alarmed but
cannot see anything. You look back to the man in front of you. He has his
pistol aimed at your head.
The end.
