 “Into the woods!” shouts Kate. Emily and you change direction and follow Kate into the dense woodland. The thick trees cut off most of the light. You slow down as the going is treacherous.

Kate raises her hand, signaling you to halt. Emily and you stop immediately next to Kate, breathing hard. You listen carefully. Far behind you, the occasional snippet of conversation from your pursuers carries thought the dense wood.

“Let’s change direction a bit. We will lose them soon!” Kate whispers and sets off.

Twice more Kate stops and listens. The second time everything is silent except for the hooting of a distant owl.

“We lost them!” Emily says excitedly. Her breath still laboured from the escape.

Kate takes her backpack from Emily and produces a GPS. She also hands each of you a small head torch.

“We can either make our way back to the car, which is a few hours hiking from here or there is a town nearby. We can hike there and make a plan to get to the university. We will be late for our meeting with my friends at the university, but they should not mind.” Kate and Emily looks at you.
